Winning ship holds some 4,500 passengers

Sometimes the journey is more important than the destination. That’s often the case when you board one of these giant floating hotels. These 10 cruise ships represent some of the biggest and newest at sea, each with a capacity of over 3,000 passengers. With such size comes loads of onboard activities, entertainment options and dining venues.

    Introduced in 2017, the 4,500-passenger MSC Meraviglia has quickly become known for its family friendly modular staterooms, private access MSC Yacht Club and loads of onboard entertainment. The ship is home to the first custom-built Cirque du Soleil theater at sea, a dozen different dining venues, the longest LED dome at sea, a beautiful Mediterranean style promenade, water park and five kids’ clubs.

  • Sky Princess

    Princess Cruises

    New in 2019, Sky Princess carries up to 3,660 passengers on itineraries in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. Cabins include the largest balconies at sea, while dining options cater to every taste. Ship highlights include a European-style Piazza atrium, a dedicated jazz theater and one of the best wine bars on a cruise ship.

  • Symphony of the Seas

    There’s a lot happening on the 6,680-passenger Symphony of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship. The 16 guest decks are divided into seven “neighborhoods” where passengers can slide down the 10-story Ultimate Abyss, play laser tag at Battle for Planet Z, dine at 20 different restaurant concepts or watch a Broadway-style production of Hairspray.

    Since Disney came to cruising from the entertainment industry, it's really no surprise that its fleet excels in this field. Aboard the 4,000-passenger Disney Dream, live productions include Disney's Believe and the guest-favorite The Golden Mickeys – a red carpet tribute to the films of Walt Disney. The Buena Vista Theater screens the latest Disney releases, sometimes in 3D. Passengers of all ages enjoy Disney's themed deck parties, like Pirate Night, that include fireworks at sea. The ship is big enough to offer abundant adults-only space as well.

    Introduced in 2018, Carnival Horizon features 15 passenger decks with room for 3,960 guests in 1,980 staterooms. Carnival’s newest is packed with amenities, including a vintage-themed cocktail bar, wrap-around promenade, onboard brewery, infinity pool, 3-deck IMAX theater, dive-in movie theater and numerous restaurants, lounges and shops.

    The 5,686-passenger MSC Bellissima offers nearly 100 square feet of public space per guest, with amenities like the longest LED dome at sea, 12 dining venues, 20 bars and lounges and two new Cirque du Soleil shows. Each cabin comes equipped with Zoe, a voice-activated AI device.

  • Allure of the Seas

    The 6,780-passenger Allure of the Seas was the largest cruise ship in the world for several years. With 18 decks, this giant is packed with activities, making sea days a big plus. Options include glitzy productions at the Aquatheater, a zip line over the boardwalk, well over a dozen dining options, four pools, a rock climbing wall, ice skating rink and several shops.

    The 5,179-passenger MSC Seaside seeks to bring passengers “closer to the sea” with innovative outdoor spaces like glass-bottomed bridges, al fresco restaurants, glass-enclosed elevators, a pair of zip lines, a water park and an adventure course. It’s one of the highest ratios of outdoor space per guest in the industry. Other amenities include a 5D cinema, full-size bowling alley and six public pools.

    The 3,046-passenger Celebrity Reflection is all about cruising sophistication. At The Art Studio, master artists from The ArtCenter/South Florida host hands-on demos and classes in a range of art mediums. Passengers enjoy nightly live music scattered throughout the ship, as well as big production shows, stand-up comedy, music and magic performances at the two-level Reflection Theater. There are over a dozen dining venues to choose from, as well as a half dozen bars and lounges.

  • Norwegian Bliss

    Sailing the waters of Alaska and the Caribbean, the 4,004-passenger Norwegian Bliss was designed for wildlife viewing, complete with an observation lounge. Guests can choose from two dozen dining options and numerous other bars and lounges, watch Broadway-style shows, listen to live music or play a round of top deck laser tag.
