Note from 10Best: Some of these events have been canceled or postponed in 2020. Someday, we'll all be ready to pack our suitcases again and head out on our next adventures. In the meantime, we'll keep supporting the events that inspire us.

  • Davie Pro Rodeo

    Davie, Fla.

    Often considered Florida’s best rodeo, the Davie Pro Rodeo takes place in “Cowboy Town” with plenty of rodeo action, as well as a vendor marketplace and activities for kids in attendance. The Round Up Nightclub hosts an official rodeo after party for the chance to meet some of the week’s stars. While the June 2020 rodeo had to be cancelled, local rodeo goers can plan to attend the Weekley Brothers Davie Pro Rodeo in September, along with the Southeastern Circuit Finals Rodeo in November 2020.

  • Reno Rodeo

    The Reno Rodeo calls itself the “Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West,” a well-earned nickname for this 10-day event that draws some 140,000 spectators to the fourth richest PRCA tour rodeo. In addition to the rodeo action, festival goers enjoy kids mutton bustin, a rodeo carnival, cowboy church and a parade. The 2020 event had to be cancelled, but the Reno Rodeo plans to return in June 2021.

  • Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

    Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
    Houston

    The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo includes two different rodeo competitions, the Super Series and the Super Shootout with a combined payout of more than $2 million. Some 325 contestants come to compete in from of over a million fans. Other events include horse shows, livestock shows, a calf scramble, auctions, parade, trail rides and a BBQ cook-off. The 2020 event had to be cut short, but supporters can donate to support the rodeo's educational programs and our junior exhibitors.

  • Silver Spurs Rodeo

    Silver Spurs Rodeo
    Kissimmee, Fla.

    The largest rodeo east of the Mississippi began as a small gathering of ranchers in 1941. Today, the event includes traditional rodeo competitions, as well as a parade and Miss Silver Spurs competition. The annual June rodeo has been postponed to October 2020.

  • Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo

    Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo
    Fort Worth

    One of the biggest events on the Fort Worth annual calendar kicks off each January with rodeos, stock shows, an All Western Parade through downtown, family activities, live music, a carnival and four acres of shopping.

  • Pendleton Round-Up

    Pendleton Round-Up
    Pendleton, Ore.

    At the heart of the Pendleton Round-Up’s week-long schedule of events is the rodeo with events like bareback bronc, saddle bronc, bull riding, steer roping, team roping, tie-down roping and steer wrestling. Festival goers also enjoy a parade through Pendleton, Tipi Village, live music and other family friendly entertainment. The Pendleton Round-Up plans to celebrate its 110th season this September.

  • World's Oldest Rodeo

    World's Oldest Rodeo
    Prescott, Ariz.

    The World's Oldest Rodeo takes place during Prescott Frontier Days – a Fourth of July Weekend tradition dating back to 1888. Events include wild horse racing, steer wrestling, bareback riding, tie-down roping, saddle bronc, team roping, bull riding and barrel racing, as well as specialty rodeo performances. The rodeo is still scheduled to take place in 2020.

  • San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo

    San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo
    San Antonio

    More than two million spectators come to the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo each year, an event that’s been taking place since 1949. Attractions during the event include a carnival, pig races, trail rides, a Western heritage parade, cowboy church, petting zoo and a rodeo with more than $1.5 million in prize money.

  • Cheyenne Frontier Days

    Cheyenne Frontier Days
    Cheyenne, Wyo.

    Cheyenne, Wyoming has been celebrating its Old West heritage since 1897 during Cheyenne Frontier Days. This showcase of all things Western boasts the world's largest outdoor rodeo, where cowboys compete for more than $1 million in cash and prizes, as well as top-name entertainment, Native American performances, parades, a carnival midway, frontier-themed art show, pancake breakfast and a chuck-wagon cook-off. The 2020 installment is scheduled for July 17-26.

  • La Fiesta de Los Vaqueros

    La Fiesta de Los Vaqueros
    Tucson

    The Tucson Rodeo, a.k.a. La Fiesta de los Vaqueros, has grown into a 9-day event since its establishment in 1925. The rodeo features current and former PRCA cowboys and cowgirls from around the U.S. and Canada competing in several different events, as well as the world’s longest non-motorized parade.

The professional sport of rodeo was born from real cattle herding practices of Spain, Australia and the Americas. Today, these tests of skill and speed are most closely associated with the American West, though rodeo events are hosted throughout the continent.
