Best Romantic Caribbean Island (2014)

Nevis, one half of the 'Sisters of the Caribbean,' is uncrowded and old-fashioned, an island of rustic charm, golden sand beaches and lovely plantation manors for touring, dining or spending the night.  This is just about as unspoiled as it gets in the Caribbean.

The "C" of the Dutch ABC Islands, Curaçao features storybook architecture, a cosmopolitan downtown scene and dramatic scenery. The island's nearly 40 beaches range from long stretches perfect for sunbathing to secluded coves. Couples can dance the night away at a number of waterfront venues.

The island of Anguilla offers a smattering of high-end resorts, gorgeous powder-soft sandy beaches and unparalleled cuisine – everything from upscale restaurants to sunset beach barbecues. Far fewer cruise ships anchor at Anguilla than at nearby islands, which only adds to the sense of sexy seclusion.

Green-blanketed mountains, deep valleys, quaint fishing villages and hidden beaches lend St. Lucia some of the most drop-dead gorgeous scenery in the Caribbean. For couples, St. Lucia offers numerous intimate and luxurious resorts, fantastic nightlife with lots of live music and a lush interior teeming with unusual features.

A gem in the Lesser Antilles, French-flavored Martinique is not only one of the Caribbean's most visually beautiful islands, it also enjoys a vibrant city center in Fort-de-France, where the wrought-iron balconies make you feel like you're in New Orleans. The northern part of the island, mountainous and blanketed in rainforest, is truly spectacular.

More developed than its sister island Nevis, St. Kitts still maintains an old-time Caribbean vibe while offering visiting couples their choice of sophisticated resorts and inns to stage their romantic escape. The mountainous island is great for hiking, while the waters offshore attract divers from all corners of the globe.

Two nations, two names, two cultures, one island. On St. Martin/Sint Maarten, French and Dutch culture exist side-by-side on a compact 37-square-mile island, complemented by wonderful beaches and a lively nightlife. Each side offers a completely different, but equally romantic, vacation experience.

On Antigua, there's quite literally a beach for every day of the year, not to mention a variety of romantic accommodations ranging from sumptuous all-inclusive resorts to intimate inns. It's a perfect place to play Robinson Crusoe or sail off into the sunset.

Dominica is the ideal place for couples who imagine their Caribbean paradise as being wild and untouched, with its hot springs, waterfalls and abundant hiking through gorgeous scenery. Volcanic black sand beaches provide opportunities for excellent snorkeling and diving.

The second largest of the British Virgin Islands, Virgin Gorda attracts movie stars and millionaires with its stunning beaches, abundant natural attractions (like the boulder-strewn Baths) and sense of privacy. Romantic inns are the norm and the snorkeling from the beach is excellent.
