Picklesburgh wins Best Specialty Food Festival

Winner is "The Destination for All Things Pickled"

These 10 festivals across North America, voted the best by our readers, celebrate specific foods – often local specialties grown or produced in the region.

    Picklesburgh bills itself “The Destination for All Things Pickled” for one weekend each July. Pittsburgh’s Roberto Clemente Bridge transforms into Picklesburgh, complete with a giant flying Heinz pickle balloon. Attendees can expect an assortment of foods and cocktails that feature pickled ingredients, as well as live demos and pickle merchandise.

  • Bacon and Beer Classic
    Multiple Locations

    This festival celebrates two of our favorite things, bacon and craft beer. As the festival moves across the country – upcoming events are taking place in San Jose, Seattle and Denver – foodies get to sample beers from local breweries and taste bacon-centric dishes from innovative chefs.

  • Pismo Beach Clam Festival
    Pismo Beach, Calif.

    The Pismo Beach Clam Festival, now in its 72nd year, attracts some 15,000 people to the California town for three days of parades, live music, a wine walk, food trucks, a clam dig and the Best Local Clam Chowder Contest where attendees get to be the judge.

    Miami

    The South Beach Seafood Festival kicks off Florida’s stone crab season each October with five days of dinners, cook-offs and beachside tastings presented by William Hill, Jack Daniels, GOYA, and Coca Cola. Proceeds from the festival benefit the EAT SMART program that provides healthy meals and nutritional guidance to Florida youth.

    Shelburne, Vt.

    Arguably the country's top artisanal cheese state, Vermont plays host to the Annual Vermont Cheesemakers Festival each July at Shelburne Farms.     Willamette Valley, Ore.

    The Oregon Truffle Festival celebrates the abundance of native culinary truffles that grown in the Willamette Valley. Truffle lovers from around the globe come to explore this rare and tasty ingredient through dinners, wine pairing classes, foraging workshops and other events held throughout Yamhill County.

    Bardstown, Ky.

    Bardstown calls itself the Bourbon Capital of the World, so it’s only fitting that this Kentucky town would play host to the annual Kentucky Bourbon Festival. Founded in 1992, the event has grown from a bourbon tasting and dinner to four days of bourbon tasting, live music, workshops and community events.

  • Tamale Festival Houston
    Houston

    Things get spicy in Houston during the annual Tamale Festival in December, where the city’s top chefs dish up their best takes on tamales. Other events include live music, ballet folklorico performances, a tamale eating contest and the coveted award for Best Tamales in Houston.

  • National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show
    Albuquerque

    The first week in March brings the National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show to Albuquerque. This "Hottest Show on Earth" brings together the nation's largest collection of hot sauces, salsas, marinades, mustards and pretty much anything else that can be infused with a healthy dose of capsaicin.
