    The motto of Hy-Vee is “a helpful smile in every aisle,” so shoppers at this employee-owned supermarket can expect friendly service at each location. You’ll find more than 240 Hy-Vee locations in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.

    What started out as a small dairy in 1969 has grown into a favorite supermarket throughout Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.     Publix was founded in 1930 in Winter Haven, Florida and has since become the largest employee-owned company in the United States. You’ll find 1,268 Publix stores in seven states, and the grocer has its own bakery, dairy and fresh food manufacturing facilities.

    Sprouts Farmers Market

    Sprouts opened their first store in 2002 in an effort to make natural foods more readily available and affordable. Today, Sprouts has expanded to more than 340 stores, each stocking thousands of natural, organic and gluten-free foods.

    "Each time a Wegmans opens – and there have been a lot of openings in the Northeast in recent years – it has been like the Beatles coming to town," says 10Best contributor Eric Grossman.     Trader Joe’s has earned an army of devotees since its first shop opened in 1967. This chain of grocery stores is known for its meticulously curated selection of unique and interesting items at affordable prices. You won’t find a lot of big brands, but you will find cult favorites, like Everything but the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend, Mandarin Orange Chicken, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups and Unexpected Cheddar.
