Early Mountain Vineyards Has America's Best Tasting Room

Stoller Family Estate comes in second place

Great wines sipped in a great space – these are the elements that combine to make a top-notch tasting room. For the past month, USA TODAY and 10Best readers have been voting daily for their favorite American tasting rooms from a pool of nominees chosen by a panel of wine travel experts.

Early Mountain Vineyards (Madison, Va.)
At Early Mountain Vineyards in Virginia, wine enthusiasts can sip a glass of fine Virginia wine by a roaring fireplace in winter or outdoors in a picnic area in summer. Sofas and chairs make for comfortable seating, while board games keep young guests (and the young at heart) entertained. Photo courtesy of Early Mountain Vineyards / Andrea Hubbell
Stoller Family Estate (Dayton, Ore.)
The eco-friendly tasting room at Stoller Family Estate has something for everyone – excellent Oregon wines, an expansive lawn for picnicking, Adirondack chairs, Frisbee golf and even a tire swing for the little ones. The views from the tasting room rank among the best in the Pacific Northwest, if not the country. Photo courtesy of Stoller Family Estate / Mike Haverkate
Alexandria Nicole Cellars (Paterson, Wash.)
Alexandria Nicole Cellars offers several tasting rooms, but our top pick is the The Estate Destiny Ridge tasting room, open by appointment for tours and tastings overlooking the Columbia River. Photo courtesy of Alexandria Nicole Cellars
Hedges Family Estate (Benton City, Wash.)
The beautiful Hedges Family Estate in Washington makes a perfect setting for sampling some of Washington's finest wines, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The estate tasting room is set amid a stunning Red Mountain vineyard. Photo courtesy of Hedges Family Estate
Paradise Ridge Winery (Santa Rosa, Calif.)
The tasting room at Paradise Ridge Winery's Russian River Valley Estate enjoys sweeping views of the Russian River Valley, as well as space to sip al fresco on an expansive outside deck. It's particularly stunning at sunset, glass of wine in hand. Photo courtesy of Paradise Ridge Winery
Dry Creek Vineyard (Healdsburg, Calif.)
Dry Creek Vineyard was the first new winery built in the Dry Creek Valley following the end of Prohibition, and today, the Healdsburg tasting room pours some of the best Fumé Blancs and Zinfandels from California. Guests can also purchase wine from the tasting room to enjoy on the winery's lovely picnic grounds. Photo courtesy of Dry Creek Vineyard
LXV Wine (Paso Robles, Calif.)
Sapphire blue walls and Indian day beds covered in plush pillows create an inviting lounge space at LXV Wine in Paso Robles. This dog-friendly tasting room serves interesting flights as well, including a wine and spice pairing curated to enhance or contrast the flavors inherent in the wines. Photo courtesy of LXV Wine
Fairsing Vineyard (Yamhill, Ore.)
Fairsing Vineyard in Oregon's Yamhill wine region recently completed a new tasting room where guests can sample flights of estate-grown wines. The architecture of the building took inspiration from ancient Celtic structures in the Irish countryside with a special focus on sustainability. Photo courtesy of Fairsing Vineyard
Municipal Winemakers (Santa Barbara, Calif.)
Located in the Funk Zone of Santa Barbara, the Municipal Winemakers tasting room serves wine by the glass or in refillable bottles from a wine fountain (like a soda fountain, but for wine). Wine flights of five selections represent a great value for money. Photo courtesy of Sara Cooper / Flickr
Bluxome Street Winery (San Francisco)
Guests at the original Bluxome Street Winery tasting room at 53 Bluxome St. in San Francisco sip their wine while gazing through expansive windows overlooking the working winery. The friendly, open space – perfect for mingling with friends old and new – serves wine flights as well as small bites. Photo courtesy of Jumping Fences Design
