New cafe serves classic European sandwiches, soups and salads
Visitors to downtown Tempe can enjoy a taste of Europe, thanks to the opening of Delice Bistro. The new restaurant and bakery, located steps from the Arizona State University campus, is in the heart of Tempe's Mill Avenue shopping, dining and nightlife district.
Delice serves up an assortment of casual European fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
For breakfast, you can start your day off with an omelet, croissant eggs benedict, French toast or a bowl of creamy oatmeal. If you're craving something special, there are several unique breakfast offerings, including a banana foster croissant French toast, Nutella French toast and smores-inspired oatmeal.
At lunch, the menu expands to include crepes, quiches, panini, salads, pasta and an assortment of hot and cold sandwiches. House specialties include a smoked salmon tartine sandwich, a prime rib au jus sandwich and a French-inspired baguette burger. You can even try a gourmet version of everyone's favorite comfort food, with a bowl of Delice's house macaroni and cheese.
The panini menu offers many takes on this gourmet Italian sandwich, including the sweet and savory fig jam and brie cheese panini and a rosemary chicken panini. The bread is grilled to crunchy perfection and then drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. Most sandwiches come with a small salad.
Delice offers plenty of healthy lunch and dinner options, too, including a quinoa tabouleh salad, carved turkey sandwich and a pear and goat cheese salad.
All the bread is baked fresh on-site, and there's a pastry counter with a selection of baked goods for dessert. Colorful macarons, fruit danishes and soft sugar cookies make a regular appearance behind the glass. Try the raisin bread and pain au chocolat, which make for a light breakfast or dessert.
Chocolate lovers, heads up: Delice also offers hand-dipped Bouchée chocolate prepared on premise by an expert chocolatier. If that's not reason enough to make a pitstop here, there's also a large selection of coffee and espresso drinks available, as well as hot and iced teas. Fresh juices are coming to the menu soon, too.
The cafe uses traditional family recipes to whip up many of the menu items. Recipes use local ingredients from Phoenix-area farmers whenever possible, and the kitchen staff is happy to accommodate special requests. There's also a small outdoor patio, perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee and taking in the downtown Tempe street scene.
