Mill Avenue in downtown Tempe becomes the center of holiday celebration every December, especially during the annual Fantasy of Lights Parade. The parade happens every year on the day after Thanksgiving and features up to 40 floats, marching bands, clowns, and other novelty units. The parade starts down Mill Avenue on 3rd Street, turns on 7th Street, and proceeds through Centerpoint Plaza, where a holiday tree is lit up during a ceremonial lighting at the end of the parade. A special guest - he wears a red suit and has a round belly - appears at the end of the parade to spread the holiday merriment.
