Scottsdale has always been a golf mecca, but now there's a new kind of golf destination in town. Topgolf, a golf-themed entertainment complex with dozens of locations around the U.S., just opened its first Arizona location in Scottsdale's trendy Riverwalk district.
Topgolf brings together the high-spirited competition of the driving range with the fun, laid-back atmosphere of your neighborhood sports bar. The 65,000-square-foot venue has 102 golf bays on three levels. The golf bays are climate-controlled, so players can comfortably tee off in an open-air setting all year long.
Players can practice their golf swing while enjoying friendly competition with friends. But this is not your traditional driving range. The balls at Topgolf are specially equipped with computer microchips that track the accuracy and distance of each shot. Players are awarded points for hitting targets in the outfield. Think bowling or playing darts, except with golf balls.

Although Topgolf will appeal to golf enthusiasts, the driving range was designed to be enjoyed by players of all ages and skill levels. According to Topgolf, nearly half of all guests describe themselves as "non-golfers." Clubs are provided for guests, but players can also bring their own clubs to the venue.
Games at Topgolf cost between $25 and $45 per hour, depending on whether games are played during peak or off-peak hours. The cost covers up to six players per bay. For frequent players, monthly memberships are available.
In between chipping and driving, Topgolf players can order drinks and food, or watch live sports on one of 230 flat-screen TVs located throughout the venue. The food menu features upscale bar eats like gourmet burgers, ribs, wings, flatbreads, sandwiches, salads and sides. There is an extensive menu of wine, beer and spirits, as well as a kids' menu. Topgolf wait staff, known as "Bay Hosts," deliver food and drink orders right to your hitting bay.
Along with being Scottsdale's newest golf destination, Topgolf is also the city's latest nightlife venue. The facility stays open until midnight on weeknights and 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Drink specials are available every Thursday night, and live music or a DJ is featured on the patio every weekend.
Topgolf is also a family destination where kids can practice their golf skills in a fun, lively setting. The venue has a KidsZone Club for guests under 12. Kids who sign up receive freebies, specials and discounts. The venue also hosts a Kidzone Summer Academy, five-day junior golf clinics designed to teach young ones the basics of golf in a casual environment.
