Tucson Mall is a magnet for Tucson shoppers looking for good deals and unique, local souvenirs. Now, the popular shopping hub will also be a draw to lovers of fine local art, thanks to the opening of a new art gallery and store.
The 1,500-square-foot art gallery Phelony opened its doors to Tucson Mall shoppers in October 2014. On any given day, the store will feature a revolving inventory of local art from at least 10 Tucson artists. Thanks to Phelony, shoppers will be able to view and purchase cutting-edge artwork from a diverse group of local artists in one convenient location.

The art gallery is owned by local art supporter Amanda Greenwaldt and her artist boyfriend Paul Lambert, who hope the gallery and store will expose shoppers to a wide cross-section of work from Tucson's vibrant art community.
Initially, the gallery was launched as an online store, but eventually the couple raised enough money to open a physical location at the Tucson Mall.
Phelony is a good example of Tucson's burgeoning art scene, with its emphasis on local culture and iconography. All the art featured at Phelony will be provided exclusively from Tucson artists. Even the music played over the store's sound system will feature local Tucson musicians only.
Along with fine local art, Phelony will also sell apparel featuring Lambert's original screen-printed art. Eventually, the store plans to have a tattoo artist working in the back of the gallery, so shoppers can leave with their very own skin-and-ink masterpiece.
The store also works with customers to provide a wide array of custom art services. Some of the services offered include airbrushing, custom decals, murals, mixed media pieces and even landscape installations.
All artists featured at Phelony must commit to having their work displayed for a minimum of four months. The gallery takes a 30 percent consignment fee from artists, along with a space fee, which is based on the amount of room that the artist needs to display his or her work.
Artists who are chosen to be shown at Phelony are selected based on whether or not their work demonstrates originality and represents the artist's true passion.
Shoppers interested in browsing for new art will find Phelony on the upper level of Tucson Mall, in between the Arizona Watch Store and J.C. Penney. The store is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
