Until recently, the bar now known as the Green was the sole preserve of locals living in the favela below. However, investors picked up on the prime Santa Teresa location and the fact that the bar offers probably the best views of any drinking spot in the neighborhood, and snapped the place up in early 2012. It´s now been christened ´The Green´, received a lick of paint and a general face lift and now offers a diverse range of food and drinks, as well as a speedy wifi connection.

The Green is now attracting a host of curious visitors as well as the regulars who have frequented the bar for years, and the result is a lively mix of cultures that makes the bar a great place for anybody keen to mingle with friendly locals.

In addition to occasional live music performances, the Green also hosts culinary events, such as weekend feijoada feasts (feijoada being the Brazilian national dish - a hearty meat and bean stew) and lively barbeques. Live music at the GreenLive music at the Green — Photo courtesy of The Green

Still a little off the beaten tourist track, the bar is starting to gather a real fan base, so now is the time to visit the bar - before it makes its way onto every visitor´s list of places to visit in Santa Teresa.
