Mention watching a movie from the car and your kids might look at you funny. San Diego residents now have an opportunity to take a date or the family to a real drive-in movie theater in the Pacific Beach neighborhood. Full Moon Drive-In is showing classic movies in digital format on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Active in social media, Full Moon Drive-In seeks recommendations from fans regarding which movies to play. To date, old favorites have included An American Werewolf in London, Top Gun and The Karate Kid. The ambiance of the drive-in is a throwback to the 1950s with a classic concession stand, vintage advertisements, an old marquee and live entertainment. Classic cars are given priority viewing spaces, though there isn't a bad seat in the house.

Sound is streamed through an FM radio channel. Bring a lounge chair and a blanket should you want to enjoy the movie outside, though a portable FM radio is useful to hear sound outside of your car.
Tickets are available online and currently $20 per car, regardless of how many people are in it and type of car. Tall SUVs will be asked to park in the back, but it won't matter as the screen is viewable from the entire lot. Tickets are only sold at the door if the movie is not already sold out online. Guests are encouraged to arrive early as the gates open an hour prior to the movie, allowing plenty of time for the obligatory hot dog and popcorn.
