If there was ever a bar that put faith in the San Francisco ideal that diversity in everything brings everyone success, it would be Amnesia. From the wide range of beers and wines, to the absolutely eclectic mix of music offerings, to its very structure that feels both intimately small and infinitely large, Amnesia literally has something for everyone.Amnesia Bar — Photo courtesy of amnesiathebar.com
It starts with the friendly bartenders and owners who have swung their doors wide open to the streets of San Francisco and invited everyone in for the party. The response to this invitation has been largely positive, but any bar knows some boundaries are needed, which are sweetly but simply stated by a sign on the wall:
“BE NICE OR LEAVE- THIS IS A GROWN FOLKS ESTABLISHMENT.”
And since Amnesia is situated near 826 Valencia and McSweeney's Publishing, you might even share the dance floor with some local literati, since writers rarely need much encouragement to put down the pen and pick up the drink. And, although the bar only serves beer and wine, both beer and wine selections are varied enough to keep most satisfied. And if late night munchies take over, there's not a better place than the centrally-located Mission for some of San Francisco's best restaurant options.
If you're a nice grown-up looking for a good time, head to Amnesia Bar in the Mission District.
