Don't skip San Francisco's impressive array of luxury hotels just because you can't afford them. Some of these grand buildings date all the way back to the Great Quake of 1906 and are worth a visit for their history alone. For example, the lobby of The St. Francis Hotel also happens to be one of the better museums in town.
