At last, Santa Barbara's favorite outdoor mall has a sandwich shop, ideal for fueling hungry shoppers and placating unwilling shopping accomplices.

After all, "one last look at the shoe department," sounds so much better when it's immediately followed by, "and then I'll buy you lunch at Pickles & Swiss!"

The hardest thing about lunching at Pickles & Swiss is choosing what to order. Their menu offers cold sandwiches, paninis, hot sandwiches and "Pickles & Swiss Favorites" like lox bagels. You can even order your own custom sandwich, made to your specifications.

Order and pay at the counter, then take a seat – inside or out – and wait for the friendly staff to bring you your meal. Too hungry to wait? A dispenser on a side wall offers patrons free dill pickle popcorn to munch on while their sandwiches are being prepared.

Pickles & Swiss is a local affair, run by a tight knit family that sources their ingredients from area suppliers whenever possible. Fresh bread and produce are brought in daily. Premium Boar's Head deli meats are used to create their signature sandwiches, along with homemade pot roast, meat balls and frittatas.

Specialties from other local artisans are also for sale at Pickles & Swiss. Try one of Renaud's legendary chocolate croissants or take home a jar of crispy Cukarambas (spicy pickle spears) from Pacific Pickle Works.
