Toronto’s Pearson International Airport is Canada’s busiest air travel hub. But despite the number of travelers who pass through its gates each day, the airport has never been known for its dining options. That’s about to change.
Starting later in 2012, passengers at Pearson will be able to indulge in food prepared by some of the city’s best chefs as they wait for their flight. The Greater Toronto Airports Authority and international food and beverage operator OTG are working together with Toronto’s top culinary talents to develop a slate of new restaurants.
Food Network Canada personality, cookbook author and chef Mark McEwan runs several popular Toronto restaurants including North 44. And he’ll bring his passion for great food to the airport with two restaurants – one focused on paninis, and another serving gourmet burgers. Those craving a great Italian meal before takeoff will be able to dine at a trattoria from Rocco Agostino of Pizzeria Libretto. Modernist cuisine wizard Claudio Aprile will serve a selection of international tapas in his restaurant.

There will also be more options for those looking to toast to their Toronto memories. Two cocktail bars will offer drink lists developed by brewer Brock Shepherd and master sommelier Jason Szabo. Prefer wine? You’ll find something great at two wine bars set to open at the airport.
That’s just a taste of the eateries set to open at Pearson International. All the new establishments will be located past the airport’s security gates, so only flying passengers will be able to enjoy the inspired meal options. All the more reason to show up early for your flight!
