The Delta Chelsea Hotel, located in downtown Toronto at Yonge and Gerrard streets, has been a home away from home for visitors to the city for almost 40 years. But while the hotel – one of Canada’s biggest, with almost 1,600 rooms – has built a longstanding reputation for service and convenience for anyone staying downtown, it’s been in need of a bit of a freshening up for a while.
The hotel will soon get the makeover it needs, and along with it, a new name. The hotel is owned by a Hong Kong-based property holding company which also owns the Eaton Hotels brand that operates in Hong Kong, Shanghai and New Delhi. As of July 1, the Delta Chelsea will be known as the Eaton Chelsea (not to be confused with the nearby – and totally unrelated – Toronto Eaton Centre mall).

The brand’s first hotel in Canada will launch following a multi-million dollar makeover that will modernize the exterior, lobby and restaurants. The Eaton brand says the hotel will be upgraded following the company’s design philiosophy of “smart, modern and uncomplicated interiors.”
While the makeover promises an updated look for the hotel, its positioning as an urban resort will remain untouched. The revamped Eaton Chelsea will maintain the five restaurants and lounges, separate pools for adults and families and downtown Toronto’s only indoor waterslide – all points that have made the hotel popular with both business travelers and visiting families for decades.
