If someone told you that there is a place in Vancouver that mainly serves champagne and dessert, you might just think that they're off their rocker (in the best possible way).
Prepare yourselves: nights out are going to get a lot sweeter!
Mosquito opened its doors in mid-February, and they've taken a simple idea of dessert and bubbles and turned it into a sultry and one-of-a-kind space in Vancouver's Gastown.

Mosquito calls itself "A champagne bar without the caviar. A dessert bar without the frosting." It's safe to say that owners Alice Wu and Johan Friedrich have nailed this unique and new-to-Vancouver concept.
Located on Water Street in Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, Mosquito hired Craig Stanghetta and Kate Snyder of Ste. Marie Art + Design to bring the space to life, who had previously designed the Homer Street Cafe, Pidgin and Bao Bei – to name just a few. They couldn't have picked better designers for Mosquito.
Step inside the dark, sultry place and take a seat along the black leather banquette seating. The space is cozy and has enough room to seat 40 guests. Dark wood tables and white marble complement custom wallpaper from Gasfurd & Walker.

But the real stars of the show are the incredible desserts created by Dominic Fortin of Bearfoot Bistro in Whistler and executed in Vancouver by Pastry Chef Julianne Hansen.
On the dessert menu, guests can expect to enjoy a variety of macarons with interesting flavors – like olive oil and rosemary or Oolong tea and milk chocolate – or decadent creations that are perfect for sharing (or having all to yourself).
The matcha green tea opera cake with yuzu cremeux, coconut matcha mousse, candied citrus zest, coconut and pandan leaf sorbet is a treat for the eyes and palate.
Should you not have a sweet tooth, they also offer cheeses, charcuterie, popcorn and a couple of other savory options.
Wash all of that down with a crisp glass of champagne from the well-curated selection of bubbles. Other options include sweet wines, champagne cocktails, spirits, premium spirits and beer.
Since opening, Mosquito has received a warm reception; it's certainly a welcome addition to Gastown's nightlife scene.
