Take a Step Back in Time at Vancouver's Tiki Bar

Move to remixed oldies as you sip on a coconut cocktail

The Waldorf Hotel is Vancouver's triple threat in the nightlife scene; you can find a hotel, restaurant and place to dance, all under one retro-inspired roof. Located on East Hastings, it's outside of Vancouver's downtown core but is still easily accessible by bus, taxi or car. When you step into the Tiki Bar, you will be transfixed on the room's decor. The twilight sky is sprawled across the painted ceiling, complete with little glimmering stars. The carpet is kitschy cool and it's as if a 1950's fairy godmother has waved her magic wand and thrown tiki dust all over the place; it's the tiki bar of your dreams. However, it was no fairy godmother that made the space what it is, but was rather done by the well known Mercer & Mercer.

The bar serves a great selection of beer and cocktails that are inspired by Mexico, Spain, North America and Polynesia, but the true stars of the drink menu are the cocktails served from young coconuts that are complete with a little umbrella and fruity garnish.

They're closed on Tuesday and Sunday evenings, but every other night of the week they're ready to party. Big nights are Friday, Saturday and Monday, and cover is charged after 9pm on each of these nights, so bring cash for that.

The music changes depending on which DJ is spinning but will usually get your body moving. The best part about the Tiki Bar is that you don't have to go far for a change of scenery and can catch a live show downstairs.
