In recent years, Gastown has become one of the hottest areas to go shopping in, and it's not surprising when you look at the increase of condos and locals that have moved into the area which has given way to new businesses to pop up. What was once a ghost town with businesses closing regularly and windows being boarded up, has now become one of the most vibrant areas of Vancouver. Gastown was originally the main downtown core, back when Gassy Jack was making a name for himself in the 1800s.

There's no shortage of fine restaurants and cafes, nor is there when it comes to shops; new businesses seem to pop up daily. The cobbled streets, old architecture and charming old fashioned street lamps make a beautiful backdrop for an afternoon of perusing through stores. Most stores in Gastown tend to be on the higher price point side, but these boutiques generally carry one of a kind items that you likely won't find in any other store around Vancouver. Old Faithful is the place to go if you're looking for a unique gift that's timeless and well-crafted. If you're in the market for a solid pair of jeans, a beautiful piece of jewelry, unique art, or some swanky home decor and furtniture, you will find it all in Gastown.
Although Gastown is the oldest neighborhood in Vancouver, it's become the newest trendy shopping area that is a local favorite.
