Farmers markets and eating locally are a huge part of the Vancouver lifestyle and it just goes to show that the Shangri La Hotel Vancouver has got their finger on the pulse by combining qualities that evoke Vancouver with their luxurious property for guests and locals to enjoy in the form of their own market. The first market took place on June 24, 2012 at the properties beloved Market by Jean Georges restaurant. They plan on hosting another one in August and September, with dates to be announced. The afternoon was not your typical farmers market as guests enjoyed canapes on the house, along with wine tastings from Tinhorn Creek. As market goers noshed on Chef Wayne Harris' delights, nine vendors and purveyors lured hungry bellies in to check out their delicious displays.

The first market welcomed these purveyors:
- Skipper Otto's Community Supported Fishery
- Organic Farm Connection (salad greens and leafy things)
- Maan Farms
- Purebread (strawberries)
- French Made Baking (French pastries and macaroons)
- Yummy Baked Goods (traditional baking)
- Take a Fancy Chocolate and Sweets (chocolates)
- Sticky Spoon
- Erin Ireland - mother of banana bread & food writer
With combined efforts from MARKET and the Vancouver Farmers Markets association, it was a successful day that can only get even better from here on out.
