Walking into KiBo Restaurant and Lounge you're greeted by friendly and personable staff that are excited about the food and atmosphere. The beautiful crystal chandelier is a globe of beauty that makes a statement in the dining room, while the bar holds it's own with it's impressive lighting. KiBo is owned by the same family that has been running the two Honjin Sushi restaurants in Yaletown and North Vancouver since 1995, so they know a thing or two about running a successful restaurant. Unlike their other locations, KiBo is Japanese fusion and the menu is full of classic favorites with new twists. They have an assortment of specialty rolls, Aburi (flame seared) sushi, Robata (Japanese BBQ), noodles, rice, appetizers, salads, soups, nigiri, sashimi, gyoza and maki rolls. There's something for everyone on the menu and each dish is prepared with precision and quality ingredients. Because there are so many tasty options on the menu it's a good idea to go with a group so that you can make a dent and try a handful of things, otherwise make sure you bring a hungry dining partner that can eat! There are chef recommended items on the menu, for good reason too! The Negi Toro is a great appetizer that goes well with beer. It's a mix of spicy tuna belly and green onions that you spread over toasted baguette. It's addictive at best. The rack of Australian lamb is tender, flavorful and you probably won't want to share that main dish with anyone at your table. The miso marinated Sablefish is another popular item, as is the KiBo beef. You can't go wrong with any of their specialty rolls, especially as they use real crab meat and the freshest of fish. KiBo also has a great cocktail menu, a solid selection of sake and signature Caesars - a Canadian must! The restaurant turns into a lounge later in the evening, offering a relaxed spot to go for some drinks and a little late night nibble.
