In the sea of Peking Duck restaurants in the city, this is the most famous brand among Chinese diners. Quanjude has more than 30 branches in Beijing but the one on Qianmen Avenue, a 1,600-meter-long revamped Qing Dynasty-style shopping street in front of the Forbidden City, is the most spectacular. This is the original store of the brand. Behind an elaborate and gilded façade lies the ovens that have been roasting authentic ducks since 1864 when Emperor Tongzhi was still on the throne. The restaurant's techniques of roasting ducks is enlisted by the Chinese government as an intangible cultural heritage. Price of a duck starts from about USD30 and take away service is available.
