Established in 1906, the theater originally hosted a variety of entertainments, including silent films, operas and musical productions.
The theater kept on roaring through the '20s with showings of The Jazz Singer and, during the Great Depression, even gave out bags of groceries to those sitting in winning seats.
In 1981, renovations turned the theater into a state-of-the-art concert hall, though it was forced to close in 1983.
From bluegrass to electronica and a cappella, Boulder Theater boasts one of the most eclectic lineups in the area each season.
For music fans, local favorite Yonder Mountain String Band is known to play annually at the theater for New Years.
And for die-hard skiers and snowboarders, Warren Miller debuts a new film each year to throngs of screaming powder-hounds who can't wait to see some famous skiers shred on Boulder Theater's big screen. This particular event is typically hosted by various big names in the ski community. And the prizes, in years past, have included Go-Pro cameras, goggles and sweet skis.

When asked what makes Boulder Theater so special, Cheryl Liguori of Z2 Entertainment has this to say:
"Concerts, comedy, all kinds of adventure films, speakers, weddings, parties and more concerts – and did I say concerts? We love live music and all the rest of the fun and entertainment we bring to our Boulder community inside one of the coolest Art Deco venues in the country."
Big names coming soon to the Boulder Theater include Zappa Plays Zappa, featuring Dweezil Zappa – the son of legendary Frank Zappa – who will play some of his father's favorites as well as his own creations.
Greg Allman and his band will bring Boulder some oldies as well as new music from their latest album. And, for something unique, Dark Star Orchestra will bring the music of Grateful Dead back to life.
Boulder Theater is conveniently located in the heart of the downtown area just off of Pearl Street.
Dining and shopping abound in this beautiful area, which is made picturesque by beautiful flowers in the spring and twinkling Christmas lights in winter.
