History
Originally built as a getaway cabin for a Chicago school teacher in 1929, the Flagstaff House has had a variety of ownerships throughout the years.
Most recently, Don Montette purchased the cabin and its surrounding land in 1971, intent on making it an exceptional and world-class fine dining experience. During renovations, a lush mahogany bar was installed along with a fireplace, completing the lodge-like feel.
It's a family affair, as Montette's sons currently help him run this thriving business. Guests don't simple visit Flagstaff to eat; they come for a unique experience that engages all of the senses and invites them to experience Boulder cuisine at its best.
Menu Offerings
Currently, Flagstaff House Restaurant is offering a feast of wild game, seafood and local wild-caught fish. Keep in mind that many of these items are seasonal, and the menu is ever-changing and evolving to highlight the best fare available.
Boulder natural chicken breast and duck breast feature regularly on the menu. However, if you prefer to steer clear of fowl, the Colorado Rack of Lamb or filet mignon are excellent choices.
Special events include collaborations with local breweries, such as the New Belgium Brewery Collaborative Beer Dinner, at which guests can sample brews from one of Colorado's finest. They'll pair the flavorful ales with menu items specifically crafted for the event.
Wine, Glorious Wine!
Having been awarded the prestigious Wine Spectator Grand Award for 31 years running, it's safe to say that Flagstaff House's wine list is a delight for connoisseurs and novices alike.
They boast over 15,000 bottles in their wine cellar! So there's truly something for everyone, from approachable and familiar California wines to the robust regions of Burgundy and Bordeaux.
The Setting
Flagstaff House Restaurant is perched atop Flagstaff Mountain – one of Boulder's highest peaks – topping out at 6,983 feet.
It's surrounded by pines and lush foliage, providing visitors with a sweeping view of the Colorado Front Range and the rolling foothills.
Guests will feel as if they've escaped into a magical and natural world.
