Nederland, Colo., sits just above Boulder, and it's known for its off-beat, laid-back and quirky style. So what better way to celebrate a frozen dead guy's life, death and current frigid state then to drink a lot of good beer; play a lot of strange, ice-related games; and listen to music from some great local bands?
The legend of the Frozen Dead Guy goes something like this: Grandpa Bredo, a skier, painter and mountain lover from Norway, passed away in 1989. He was literally packed in dry ice and sent to the states to be with his family.
In California, he was cryogenically frozen and, eventually, made is way to Nederland, Colo., to be looked after by his daughter. There he has remained since 1993 in a Tuff Shed, awaiting the day when the wonders and advances of science can revive him.
Frozen Dead Guy Days breathes life, color, music and fun into wintery "Ned" every March, with three days of wacky events.

Coffin Races, Turkey Bowling and Pancake Breakfasts
Some Frozen Dead Guy Days' favorites include the coffin race, where people wheel out homemade coffins and, well, race them for praise, honor and glory.
Turkey bowling typically involves bearded and brutish men hurling 10-pound frozen turkeys at bowling pins.
You'll also find food galore at the festival, and a pancake breakfast typically gets the fun rolling.
The Polar Plunge and Brain Freeze Contest
One of the main attractions, the Polar Plunge is a registered event where participants are decked out in hilarious costumes, which provide little to no protection from the frigid Nederland waters.
Those hoping to participate must sign a release waiver, since jumping into freezing water has been known to stop a heart or two.
Yep, it's exactly what it sounds like. Contestants race to eat really, really cold things like ice cream and popsicles. OUCH!
Bands and Beers
Local beer and local music is a staple of Nederland. Each year, the lineup for brews and tunes is different. But one thing remains the same: Frozen Dead Guy Days delivers quality entertainment and libations for all those in attendance.
