This restaurant offers live music seven nights a week, a delicious and creative menu that meets any appetite and a quiet spot in the foothills west of Denver. (The name plays to the restaurant’s location, tucked way in the mountain in the Genessee Town Center.)
Owner Alan Zizmor has been working with Executive Chef Nick Shankland on creating a menu focused on New American cuisine. Entrees on the dinner menu are divided into vegetarian, sea and farm categories, and all are inspired by two unlikely-to-combine regions: Asia and the Deep South.

Weirdly, the fusion of the Far East and Southern comfort works. The results are dishes like the Crab Mac 'n' Cheese, Braised Octopus with House-Made Andouille Sausage and the Shrimp Pad Thai.
On the land-inspired menu, the Braised Beef Short Ribs with Hush Puppies and the Pork Osso Buco with Char Siu Sauce are bestsellers.
And when it comes to the vegetarian menu, the Curry-Potato Dumplings, the Grilled Cauliflower Steak with Walnut Miso Spread and the Farro Risotto stand out.
Guests will also find a comfort section offering more traditional menu items, like the HK+B Burger served with garlic mayo and fontina cheese on a house-made bun.
Happy hour at Hideaway goes from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily, featuring $5 glasses of wine, $2 drafts and $7 specialty drinks, with small plates including hummus, fried chicken wings and crab dip.
The brunch menu feeds hearty appetites with the Chicken-Fried Pork and Biscuit and sweet tooths with the Pain Perdu – a French toast served with espresso crème cheese, maple-soaked house bacon and pecan maple syrup.
Ninety-five percent of the ingredients at Hideaway are made in-house, including the ice cream, sorbet and other desserts.
The intimate space seats 62 people, and an outdoor seating area for 44 includes two firepits, as well as a 250-seat amphitheater, allowing guests to enjoy live entertainment in spring and summer.
On Tuesdays, the Ron Jolly Jazz Trio plays, and the pop duo Sauner & Hall plays on Wednesdays. On Sundays, the Hideaway Reggae All Stars start jamming at 4 p.m.
A short 15- to 20-minute drive from downtown Denver, Hideaway Kitchen + Bar is in the foothills at an elevation of 7,600 feet, making it an awesome place to escape from the city.
