During this one-of-a-kind journey tour, visitors enjoy the lush green areas and gardens of the Cafe Britt plantation. Giant puppets of Costa Rican folklore greet visitors in the meadow-y entrance, and a charismatic, multilingual guide introduces the tour with a brief history of coffee production in Costa Rica, then leads the small group through the coffee bush nursery, the sustainable coffee plantation and the coffee roastery. A highlight along the way includes a professional coffee demonstration and tasting.
The tour ends with a visit to the Cafe Britt gift shop, where you can sample chocolates and pick up eco-friendly souvenirs, like totes made from re-purposed coffee bags woven by a Costa Rican women's collective and bags of Britt's Fair Trade coffee, which can be shipped home so its waiting for you.
Tours are given twice daily, at 9:30 am and 11:30 am, and can be booked online at http://www.coffeetour.com and through most major hotels in San Jose. If driving from San Jose, follow Route 2 though General Punta Canas Highway to Santa Lucia, Heredia.
