Whether it's your first trip to Costa Rica or your fifteenth, if you have yet to spend a night at El Silencio Eco-Lodge & Spa, it's time you treated yourself to the experience. With just 16 suites on the expansive property in the remote coastal region of Bajas del Toro, every room offers privacy and an intimate view of the lush grounds. Tropical flower in Costa Rica — Photo courtesy of DoctorWhoBird watching is an inevitable part of daily life at El Silencio, and it's easy to get a good night's sleep on your cloud-top mattress, especially after a long day of exploring El Silencio's own extensive network of trails through the rainforest, participating in a tree planting ceremony or taking a day trip to the nearby Arenal Volcano or Catarata del Toro, a 200-meter waterfall.
Dining is at El Silencio's excellent Las Ventanas, which serves 100% locally-produced meals with most of the ingredients sourced from the Lodge's own gardens. The onsite Esencia Spa offers a tantalizing menu of services such as massages, facials and body wraps, and those so inclined may participate in yoga classes at the Yoga Deck and Conical Room, specially designed to channel the Costa Rican rainforest's essential life energy.
Not surprisingly, El Silencio is a recipient of Costa Rica's Certification of Sustainable Tourism, one of only 13 properties to receive the highest rating.
