About Prague 01 Hradcany

Hradcany, the Castle District, occupies a commanding position high above the Vltava River. This district is Prague's smallest neighborhood. Every day many visitors wend their way up to the Castle, the seat of Government since the ninth century and St Vitus Cathedral which took five hundred years to complete. Not many people live in this neighborhood. This was different in the old days when the inhabitants of Hradcany worked for their masters in the castle. Today, civil servants work here for their president but they live in other parts of Prague. During the day, Hradcany buzzes with activity, at night it is one of the quietest spots in Prague.
