Meant to evoke the spirit of a small, family-run trattoria, Cucina Vivace brings alive a little piece of Italy in the middle of Arlington, Va., just across the river from D.C. Chef Gordon Vivace is alone in the kitchen (OK, he has one assistant) and each dish is hand-crafted by him. The menu changes daily based on what fresh meats and produce are available. Cucina Vivace is also great for a glass of wine and some small plates. Caponata, a baked mix of eggplant, red bell peppers, garlic and capers, is just one of the many delicious choices.
