The Cold War has clearly thawed, because one of Russia's most charming restaurants is preparing to open is biggest location yet – right in the heart of Washington, D.C. The new upscale dining establishment is called Mari Vanna and will be modeled after the original restaurant in Moscow. The latest location in D.C.'s hip Dupont Circle is the restaurant's sixth location worldwide and third American location, following successful launches in New York and Los Angeles.

The massive new restaurant will span three floors, each offering diners a unique experience. On the first floor, there will be an open kitchen and bar. One floor up, guests will find the more formal dining room. Finally, on the top floor, there will be a private cocktail lounge. The concept reflects the goal of having each level represent a step-up in the luxury and grandness of the experience.
The decor of the existing Mari Vannas is meant to reflect a warm, trinket-laden Russian home. The motto of the restaurant is "Po-Domashnemu" and means "home style" which is the type of cooking Mari Vanna will offer.

The menu at the new D.C. location is expected to be similar to the other U.S. locations and represents a veritable feast for those who love Slavic-inspired cuisine. There will certainly include the ubiquitous borscht – a traditional beef, beet and vegetable soup. Also look for pelmeni – classic Russian veal dumplings, and vareniki – potato and mushroom pierogi in a mushroom sauce.
Mari Vanna in Dupont Circle is scheduled to open in Jaunary 2013.
