Logan Circle doesn't get all the hype of trendier Dupont Circle. And that's a good thing. This quiet, residential neighborhood has a growing reputation for great restaurants, charming boutiques and relaxing strolls – without the hubbub of the congested tourist areas. Explore Logan Circle and a different side of D.C.
See & Do
The Logan Circle area stretching to U Street is home to several arts venues that have solid reputations for interesting, unique performances quite different from what you would find in the flashier nightclubs of D.C. We're talking places like The Black Cat, which has been bring great musical acts to the city for nearly 20 years. Or the Studio Theater that specializes in contemporary plays and dramas drawn from around the world.
Eat
There are many wonderful bistros and eateries on the main thoroughfares and tucked away on the quiet streets around Logan Circle. We're thinking places like Birch & Barley, with its 550+ beers and its fantastic tasting menu. (Try the Corn Tortellini.) Or head south a few blocks to Mio, sometimes called the Latin American "embassy" of D.C. for its flavorful Latin-American style dishes.
Party
The neighborhood around Logan Circle is home to several lovely wine bars, with hundreds of wines available by the glass and even more in bottle. Cork and its menu of small plates is one such haven. Vinoteca, a bit north near the historic U Street corridor, offers more than 100 wines available by the glass and a delightful dinner menu as well. For a twist on a date night, head to Vinoteca on Sundays for flamenco dancing.
Stay
Logan Circle is primarily a residential area with just a sprinkling of commercial enterprises, so it's the perfect place for visitors looking to avoid the heavy heavy tourist areas. Several boutique hotels are within a short distance of the circle, including Helix, a delightful little inn with whimsical decor that will have you smiling throughout your relaxed stay. A few blocks west is the bold Rouge Hotel for another unique experience.
Shop
Logan Circle has a variety of wonderful fashion boutiques in the vicinity, catering to both men and women. Caramel is a eco-friendly boutique that has hip clothing from some of the industry big names, but also carries jeans, belts, shoes and other items by local designers. If you are in the mood for art, try Hemphill Fine Arts, a commercial gallery offering a wide array of contemporary works in various media.
