For all of the seaside attractions in the legendary Hollywood, there is another attraction that is gaining more and more attention since it recently opened.
It's the Yellow Green Farmer's Market just a few miles west of the coast off Taft Street and I-95. Dedicated to integrating green living into the heart of daily life, this 100,000 square foot open-air facility holds over 300 booths that offer, among other things, a wide variety of fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables, seafood, olives and olive oils, pastas, plants and flowers, pet food, jewelry, freshly-made breads, an ice cream stand, and even a masseuse.
This Farmer's Market seems worlds away from the bustling Fort Lauderdale urban area that surrounds it. However, since opening, it has earned a special place in the hearts of local health and fitness enthusiasts as well as foodies who enjoy the endless variety and the atmosphere that inspires awareness in the culinary possibilities. The Yellow Green Farmer's Market has increasingly grown in popularity, and so have the friendly crowds that visit it. Open just Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., there is plenty of parking, free earth-friendly and colorful shopping bags, and even a place to sit and relax and listen to a local, talented musician who has set up to entertain (don't forget to tip).
While there is not a direct exit from I-95 to Taft, exit on Sheraton and make your way south to Taft Street, then look for the big green building. Also accessible via Tri-Rail, bus or bicycle.
