Sometimes a posh hotel offering lots of amenities is just what the doctor ordered for a getaway. But most often, travelers spend more time exploring where they are than hanging out in their hotel rooms.

There are lots of great, affordable options with desirable locations all over the Fort Myers area---even at the beaches. Located on the city's main North/South artery, US41, you can easily get to downtown festivities (five miles), and some of the most popular restaurants and shops in town. If you have your own plane, Page Field Aiport is almost directly across the street, otherwise it's about 12-miles from Southwest Florida International Airport. The outdoor pool is also heated for those occasional chilly days, however, if you prefer the water in the Gulf of Mexico, the beaches are only about 15-miles away. The parking is free but if you don't have wheels, there are a number of shops and restaurants that are within walking distance and a public transportation stop with buses to the beaches.

Hilton Garden Inn Ft Myers

This hotel is located just a few miles from the Caloosahatchee River and the main bridge to downtown Cape Coral. It's also the best place to stay if you plan on attending one of the many great events that take place at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall. The Hilton has a fitness center, a pool and a cafe. It's also close to the many shopping and dining options at the Bell Tower Shops, local pizza joints, a health food market and University Grill, a popular neighborhood spot. From this point, It's also less than 15 minutes to Sanibel Island and about 10 minutes to downtown Fort Myers, depending on the time of year and time of day.

LaQuinta Fort Myers Beach Sanibel

If you don't care about staying directly on the beach but would like to be close, this is a good base for you to explore the Fort Myers and Sanibel areas. Minutes from either barrier island, this LaQuinta is also one mile from Bunche Beach, where you can access 718-acres of natural tidal wetlands, fish and rent kayaks. The Best Western Beach Resort is a great find on Fort Myers Beach. The hotel is on the north side of the island where it tends to be a little quieter. However, the walk to where the beach action begins is a short three blocks. There you will find lots of shops, restaurants, bars and more. The modern rooms have kitchenettes and private balconies overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, great for sunset viewing. There is even a guest cottage if you want more space and privacy. The grounds are always well maintained and the outdoor pool is heated for those occasional, chilly mornings.
