Good Bites for Late Nights in Fort Myers

You never know when you are going to be hungry, sometimes it happens at 6pm but other times it’s midnight. If you are out and about in Fort Myers with a stomach that is grumbling, but you would like to avoid the 24 fast food restaurants, it’s good to know where to go.

Pizza is always pleasing, especially when it comes from the Downtown House of Pizza. Serving homemade slices and entire pies until 3am in this casual spot, you can pick from a variety of mouthwatering toppings, cooked to perfection.

But if you want sit down service with a quality bottle of wine and award winning cuisine, you’ll find it along with great people watching at Cru. This trendy, foodie haven has a kitchen that stays open until midnight on the weekends.

Over the Caloosahatchee River in Cape Coral, the Lobster Lady Seafood Market and Bistro serves a full menu until midnight along with a late night happy hour and live music too. The new Chill Bar makes drinking and dining even more cool.

The choices for dining late cover all areas of town and just about any craving you may be having. Because the area is seasonal, hours may change in the summer so it never hurts to double check.

You can easily spot Ford's Garage from the antique Ford often parked out front. It's also distinguishable by the large crowds perched at the outdoor tables and milling about the sidewalk. This craft burger joint serves it's creative combos until 1:30 on the weekends and stays open later than most spots during the week. It's also popular with beer lovers, serving more than 100 on tap and by the bottler. The decor is unique and impressive, with an old Model T hanging above the bar, well-placed gas pumps and other items fitting the vintage automotive shop by day, and speakeasy by night theme.

The Gulfshore Grill is one restaurant with two great vibes. The indoor portion provides quiet, the comfort of air conditioning and views of the Gulf of Mexico from every seat. The outside deck, also called The Cottage, serves the same menu, however, shirts are not required here and there is live music almost every night. Whether inside or out, you get front row seating for some of the best parties on the beach. Start with the famous Beach Bread then try the Grouper Platter. The Gulfshore Grill is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner but late night is great fun. Take advantage of the valet service as towing companies are active in this area.

Nice Guys Pizza and Wings

A funky, dimly lit pizza joint in Cape Coral, Nice Guys has almost a cult following late at night. It's small, so you may have to wait for a table, but it's worth it. The pizzas are fantastic; try the Truffle Shuffle for something different. Until 1:30am you'll also find subs and salads here and their infamous garlic knots. After a night of partying, things like fried pickles, cheese stix and deep-fried Oreos also resonate well with patrons. A bit rock-n-roll, a bit hippy, this spot with an eclectic cool vibe also has an exotic selection of craft beers. They've expanded to include an adjoining lounge with a stage, cozy seating and games. The staff and customers at Nice Guys, really are NICE.

Downtown House of Pizza

For years, the Downtown House of Pizza has been the premier spot to get a late night slice that hangs off the edge of a paper plate. Serving until 3am, patrons who show up at this hour are delighted. You'll find a line out the door for the hand-tossed pizza, but it moves relatively quickly. The case is full of pies loaded with all kinds of toppings, just waiting to be finished off in the hot ovens. While the slices are big, if there are more than a couple of you ordering, it's worth it to get an entire pie. Seating inside is limited and it can get hot with those ovens cranked up, but there are benches and tables in the back courtyard too.

The Treehouse is the rooftop restaurant and bar at Society, the newest hot spot at The Bell Tower Shops in Fort Myers. Society occupies a huge indoor/outdoor space, has a wine room, a private dining room and a spacious rooftop entertainment area. The Treehouse has a separate, fun and festive cocktail menu from the rest of the restaurant. Besides having premium spirits served in specialty barware, the Treehouse serves late night bar snacks including salads, dips and tacos. Find entertainment seven days a week, mostly bands and musicians, however, nationally known DJ's often get the party going on Friday and/or Saturday nights. Check the entertainment schedule and enjoy this outdoor late night space.

Big Ten Tavern

With 16 big screen TVs, 13 taps, an open floor plan, and corn hole games, you might guess this is a fun place to watch a game, but it also has a creative and satisfying menu line up with a kitchen that serves late. The wings are juicy with house made dipping sauces, and the nacho chips are hand cut from flour tortillas. A brick oven gives the pizza a crisp, light crust; it's special ingredients are garlic butter and Parmesan cheese. Regulars love the chicken and waffle sliders drizzled with maple honey mustard. But the big deal is tater tops; nuggets of shredded, deep-fried potatoes, with a dusting of ranch seasoning. Order alone, Greek-style or covered with a wide variety of toppings to satisfy almost any craving.

The Lobster Lady Seafood Market and Bistro sits in an unassuming strip mall, serving a full menu until midnight everyday, with live entertainment until 11pm. A case filled with fresh seafood lines one wall, while multiple tanks full of lobsters line the other with just enough space for a musician or two. Also along the perimeter you'll find a decent size bar to belly up to, not only for drinking but also dining. Besides enjoying food later in the evening hours, you can enjoy two for one house wines and drafts from 10 to midnight. Just over the Caloosahatchee River in Cape Coral, The Lobster Lady recently expanded, adding the ultra cool Chill Bar where you can get sushi and a superb selection of craft cocktails.

Cape Coral

Nevermind's moniker is "Awesome Bar and Eatery", and that it is. This downtown Cape Coral hotspot not only serves, but encourages ordering food late at night, with a special menu. Ordering from the "Late Night 420" begins at 10pm and goes until closing which is 2am Tuesday through Saturday (12am Monday and 11pm Sunday). This menu serves everything from lamb burgers and parmesan truffle wings, to spring rolls and hot, home made cookies. Nevermind is a small space so it fills up fast with fans wanting specialty cocktails made with fresh ingredients, even the simple syrup is made in house. Thankfully, the owner has taken over the adjoining space, added a front patio and back yard drinking and dining too.

Cru is one of the places to see and be seen in Fort Myers and while it is almost always crowded early in the evening for happy hour, it is also one of the best options for first rate, late night dining. This trendy restaurant has both a tapas and a full dinner menu, and at least one is served in full until 11pm on weeknights, 12pm on the weekends. Some of mouthwatering selections include escargot ravioli, truffled short ribs, cheese plates and pork belly. The menu items as well as wine selections change often and never fail to meet expectations. Who would want to settle for fast food when you could have delicacies drizzled in truffle oil at midnight.
