Unlike Key West, Marathon is not known for its nightlife, but there are a few spots that stay open late and offer evening entertainment. Opened in 2010, the Sunset Grill and Raw Bar has been attracting visitors with a killer location – just next to the seven-mile bridge, a heated pool, beach and lounge area, and boat dock. It’s the ultimate place to blend daytime dining and drinking with nighttime festivities. The view from Sunset Grill and Raw Bar — Photo courtesy of Sunset Grill and Raw Bar
Specialty cocktails come with souvenir glasses, like the Painkiller, a sweet combination of rum, orange and pineapple juice, pineapple, coconut and nutmeg in a pirate mug, or “sharkbite,” which requires patrons to pour the “shark” into the drink and stir to make the sea turn red. The restaurant serves up fresh seafood dishes, sushi, burgers, and award-winning chowders. Sit out on the patio, sip on a margarita and watch the sun set and the live music begin. The bar stays open until midnight and music continues late during busy season for dancing under the stars.
Get an early start on “Sunday Fundays,” from 2-6pm which features a different theme each week (think: Reggae parties, barbecue pool parties and oyster roasts). During football season, the staff rolls out the 9 by 18-foot projector screen so guests can watch the games in HDTV.
