A friendly guest — Photo courtesy of Deer RunAs you leave Key West, the style of lodging options changes dramatically. The array of B&Bs disappear and are replaced by family-friendly campsites and affordable old-world motels. Deer Run B&B is one of the few, upscale inns of its kind in the Lower Keys. The owners are vegan conservationists, and the vibe of the inn follows suit: breakfast consists of delicious vegan options, and there is an emphasis on eco-friendly practices (Deer Run is a certified green lodge.)Vegan breakfast — Photo courtesy of Deer Run
This is an authentic, traditional-style B&B, so expect to share a breakfast table with other guests out on the screened veranda (it overlooks the Atlantic). While some people aren’t used to this, others find it a wonderful way to make new friends and enjoy casual conversation.
The are only four rooms on the property: three are oceanfront and one faces the garden. Energy Star-rated flat screen TVs, ceiling fans and small refrigerators can be found in each of the rooms, in addition to organic bed linens.
Bikes, kayaks, and beach supplies are all accessible to guests as well as a salt water pool, mineral tub, and private natural-sand beach. The property is truly a place to relax, lounge in a hammock, and unwind from busy, modern world. Key Deer roam freely around the premises, the manicured gardens adds a whimsical touch, and at night the stars sparkle in the sky.The natural beach — Photo courtesy of Deer Run B&B
