Opened in the 1920s as a health spa on the banks of the natural springs that that give the town its name, Shangri-La has endured many incarnations. In the 1960s, it was known for its vegan, raw cuisine and wellness mission. Today, the resort undergoes restoration. Before COVID, it had opened its healthful kitchen, fueled by the property's organic garden, and some of its historic accommodations. Although the restaurant and hotel are temporarily closed, the spa remains open (but check the website for current status), touting its organic status - from its treatment products and homegrown cotton balls to the sheets and towels.
