Rapids Water Park is often forgotten about as a West Palm Beach attraction. Maybe because it's located slightly off the beaten path - on North Military Trail - a bit further inland than the typical visitor ventures when in the area. But to juice up business, the park has consistently been adding new slides and rides. During last year's water park season, they added the FlowRider.
FlowRider's simulated wave system has been gaining a large following in recent years, as the number of installations around Florida has increased. The novel attraction shoots 30,000 gallons of water per minute in the direction of the wave rider, who experiences the sensation of being suspended in a continuous wave. Riders can move in and out of the wave across a 400-square-foot surface, practicing their turns and tricks.

Rapids was most likely drawn to and sold on installing the attraction due to eliminating "thrill fatigue" experienced by guests who ride thrill-based rides. The thought is that the more you ride a slide, the less thrilling it becomes and the less likely you are to make return visits.
With the new FlowRider, there is a degree of skill that can be honed on each successive visit. Guests will be thrilled initially out of the gate, and then they'll continue to come back to improve their wave-riding skills.
At Rapids, body boarding is currently the only acceptable way to ride the FlowRider (except during Flow Jam days). The height requirement for this attraction is 42 inches, and the guest should also be able to swim.
On select Saturdays during the spring, Rapids runs Flow Jam days, when body boarding and stand-up boarding (flowboarding) are allowed. Judges will be on hand to grade riders' best runs, with entries to the championship and other prizes awarded.
Besides the FlowRider, Rapids Water Park has many other top-notch attractions on hand to help keep guests in town when they're looking for a water park. Slides like the Rapids Racer have won awards in the past for ingenuity and creativity in slide design.
Kids will love Pirate's Plunge and Tubin' Tornadoes, slides that will induce shrieks and guarantee a soaking.
When visiting Palm Beach / West Palm Beach, you really don't want to leave town for attractions, especially of the water park variety. There is no need to drive all the way up to Disney World when a highly rated water park is right in your backyard.
With world-class rides like the FlowRider ready to excite and challenge, Rapids Water Park should be on your to-visit list during your Florida stay.
