Lee Roy Selmon's is a staple in the Tampa area restaurant scene, with seven locations sprinkled throughout Tampa Bay. Founded by the late, beloved Oklahoma and Tampa Bay defensive lineman, the restaurant specializes in Southern comfort and soul food like fried green tomatoes and meatloaf.
With the coming of summer, the powers that be at Selmon's let the season take them in a new direction and have started offering a summer menu that is quite a departure from the typical Selmon's fare (the regular menu is still available).
The locals are particularly talking about the grilled white corn-on-the-cob brushed with chipotle mayo and dusted with cotija cheese. People are saying that this side dish alone might be worth the trip.

Another new addition is the Mediterranean Shrimp Flatbread. Rock shrimp, feta cheese, roasted red peppers, kalamata olives, plum tomatoes, and basil form a pizza unlike any ever seen at a soul food restaurant.
Finally, finish off the meal with the Crunch Time Sundae. Vanilla ice cream is rolled in Captain Crunch cereal and topped with hard shell chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and Reese's peanut butter chips. It's one of those dishes that you wish you would have thought of and will file away for future reference.

To be honest, it was high time Lee Roy Selmon's started showing a little more creativity in their menu. This seasonal menu is a great start. If enough people like the dishes, maybe they will add them to the permanent menu.
