What happens when you take a popular barbecue restaurant, move it a couple of miles away and transform it into a cantina? If you’re Blowin’ Smoke, you’ve just created the best new spot in town to enjoy good, cheap eats.
Blowin’ Smoke BBQ, which operated in an indoor-outdoor space on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard since 2008, had already established a reputation as one of the best barbecue joints in Downtown Savannah. So when the eatery uprooted and moved to the space formerly occupied by the restaurant Sol, many regular patrons were eager to see what changes owners Brian and Jennifer Huskey had in store.

The new Blowin’ Smoke, located at 1611 Habersham Street, still takes advantage of Savannah’s mild year-round climate with plenty of outdoor seating. And the restaurant still serves its signature pulled pork. But instead of heaping platters of smoked meat with Southern-inspired sides, Blowin’ Smoke now offers its pulled pork on sliders, topped with coleslaw and fried onions.
The rebranded Blowin’ Smoke Southern Cantina offers other sliders too, along with tacos, salads, soups, sides and appetizers. The sliders and tacos utilize Blowin’ Smoke’s slow cooked meats but also incorporate flavorful ingredients like spicy barbecue tofu and blackened fish. Sliders and tacos are just $3 or $4 each, while salads run a little higher, depending on what meat you choose. The restaurant also has a nice selection of drinks, including margaritas, well drinks and skinny cocktails for those watching their waistlines.
