Most kids have experienced the thrill of riding a carousel, but only a few can lay claim to riding on the second level of a carousel. That’s because double-decker carousels are few and far between, especially in Georgia, which didn’t have a two-level carousel until the Savannah Mall unveiled its latest attraction.
Located in the mall’s food court, the 28-foot-tall, double-decker carousel features a wildlife theme with hand-crafted and hand-painted animals including a zebra, gorilla, seahorse, lemur, okapi and several horses. The carousel also includes a spinning cup on the first level and a stationery bench on the second level.
Tokens can be purchased from a nearby machine and cost $3 per ride; the price goes down if you buy more than one token at a time. Parents can ride free with their children.
In addition to the new carousel, the Savannah Mall also boasts other kid-friendly attractions including a free soft play area. The Savannah-themed soft play, located on the lower level of the mall, features a foam cannon, bridge, plantation house, riverboat and seafaring birds, along with benches for parents. The Savannah Mall's holiday train, which takes kids through an elaborately decorated wonderland, is available each winter at Christmastime and spring around Easter.
