The Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum in Athens presents an original exhibition with the title “A Voyage through Myths and Art” running until the end of October. Students of Moraitis school, in collaboration with the Lalaounis Museum, organized this exhibition with their recent artistic creations and the 1973 Collection Silver Play from the permanent collections of the Museum.Students collaborating in art — Photo courtesy of Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum
Students from two different age groups, namely kindergarten and IB1, followed special educational programs at the Museum before creating their own works inspired by the collections. Amongst the collections on which their work was based are those with elements of ancient Greek art, mythology, nature and collections pertaining to contemporary technology. The second part of the exhibition honors the avant garde educational activity of Antonis Moraitis and the artistic inspiration of Ilias Lalaounis, presenting the Collection Silver Play, creations made in 1973 following a collaboration between the two men. ]In 1973, after a suggestion made by Ilias Lalaounis, children of Moraitis School designed a piece of jewelry they would like to present to their mothers. From the 300 designs, Ilias Lalaounis chose 63 for this original collection (in silver, colored plexiglass and crystals), which traveled to many exhibitions around the world. Forty years later, the inspiration and the technique are reversed; students are inspired by the permanent collections of the Museum.
