Citrus in Athens' Kolonaki, New Delicacy Spot

Citrus is a brand new shop opened recently in Athens within the fashionable neighborhood of Kolonaki exclusively selling products from the well-known Citrus Memory Scent of Chios. All Citrus products are made from fresh fruit cultivated on the company's farm on the island of Chios and include mouthwatering delicacies like delights in various flavors, marmalades, fruits in syrup,  marzipan, sweet and salty biscuits, sea salt with saffron and orange, vinegar with lemongrass and fresh mint and many more delectable tastes.Citrus entrance — Photo courtesy of Citrus

Citrus Memory Scent was created in 2008 with the aim of promoting the history of citrus fruits in Chios, linking dynamically the past with the present and the future of citrus fruits in the area of Kambos, which have played an important role in the development of the region. New tastes and fragrances were introduced and combined with traditional methods in this small cottage industry, awakening memories of other times.Citrus interior — Photo courtesy of Citrus

Three orchards with varieties of citrus fruits, including the unique mandarins of Chios are cultivated, providing the ingredients for the carefully prepared handmade products.  Citrus Memories is also a museum which contains documents and historical data of the local citrus fruit, presented in an attractive and interesting way, where visitors can glean information about the cultivation of citrus fruits, the agricultural tools and methods used, the society and people who developed the myth of Chian tangerines, the landlords of the area and much more. The area of Kambos with its impressive estates and mansions is also of special architectural interest and great natural beauty.
