The Roman Forum, which was built between 19 and 11 B.C. with donations of Julius Caesar and Augustus, contains a rectangular court, flanked with loggias. The court was paved during Hadrians reign. The most impressive monument in this area is the gate of Athena Archigetis, with four Doric columns, the eastern Propylo, with four ionic columns of grey Hymettus marble, the Fetihe mosque built in 1456 A.D., which houses a part of the Museum of Folk Art. The gate of Athena Archigetis is the most impressive element and stands out against the background. From this point visitors can see a panoramic view which reaches to Thission.
