If you love to read, shop or are looking for that perfect gift or souvenir with a local feel to it, Basically Books on Big Island is the place for you. Hidden among Hilo's thickest collection of boutiques, art galleries and restaurants, the bookstore can be explored along with the rest of the hip neighborhood.

On the shelves you'll find a vast collection of books including history, novels, education, travel and art. Most of the publications here are by local authors and reflect the culture and interests of the islands. You'll also find a lovely array of local arts and crafts, as well a huge selection of maps and other collectibles.

You'll have no problem finding a new read for the beach, or a perfect gift like a children's book or piece of art to bring home. Other collectibles like drink coasters, mugs, earrings and other knick-knacks can be found throughout the store and most are locally crafted, or at least inspired by Hawaiian style.
Occasionally, special events like book signings with local authors, live music and hula are offered, but if you're looking for something like that, call ahead of time and inquire. Like at all other shops on the Big Island, plastic bags have been banned, so bring a reusable shopping bag with you.
