Blue Dragon Restaurant & Musiquarium in Big Island is known for giving guests a really good time and for their musiquarium, which they define as a "place or device containing or associated with music and aquatic fare and locale." Live music is featured almost every night of the week, and music styles span from light rock and blues to island style slack key and Hawaiian music.

Blue Dragon is always crowded with locals and visitors alike dancing away the evening and taking breaks for bites of delicious food. The menu is locally based and presents local fish, meats and produce. Some produce on the menu comes from the owner's personal farm, offering some of the healthiest and freshest food around. The menu also notes which items are vegetarian, vegan and/or gluten-free.
The live music is a big draw here, and often times the place turns into a club-like atmosphere. Children are welcome and there's a keiki (children's) menu, but it's best to bring them earlier on in the night before the party scene gets going.
Menu highlights include ahi and avocado sashimi, fried oysters and Hamakua mushroom polenta for appetizers. For salads, sample the Up-Beet Salad, Organic Caesar Wedge or the From Big Island Salad. Soups of the day are dreamed up daily by the chef, changing with available ingredients. Standout entrees are the maple-fried chicken with savory waffles and guava pork chop.

Located across the water in Kawaihae Harbor, Blue Dragon is there for a family dinner, date night or for some nightlife (of which there's not much on the Big Island). Nearby places to visit include Hapuna Beach Park, Spencer Beach Park and 69 Beach.
The small shopping center that houses the restaurant is home to an array of shops including beach wear, jewelry, Kona coffee and a general store. Although it's a 45-minute drive from Kailua Kona, where most of the hotels are, Blue Dragon is worth the drive for those in search of a delicious dinner and unique nightlife experience.
Time spent at Blue Dragon is as unique as the eatery's motto: "A vision of all of the Earth's oceans combined as they twist throughout the planet, caressing and connecting the sounds and flavors of all coasts." This is the place to be to inspire all senses and to feed your soul.
