Dubbed the "King Kam" by locals, the Courtyard Marriott's King Kamehameha Beach Hotel on Big Island has always delivered a satisfying stay at an affordable price. It's by no means a resort, but it's about location and convenience here as it's located right on Ali`i Drive amidst all the action, and has a beach out front. Although they advertise rates from $185-250, deals around $140 can be found online and even less for kama`aina (locals).

In late 2011, the hotel underwent renovations in the lu`au area, restaurant and lobby after the tsunami earlier in the year severely damaged it, as well as many other parts of Ali`i Drive. Although those parts have been revamped, the rooms were left alone since they went undamaged after being renovated recently.
With 452 rooms there's plenty of space, but it's good to book well in advance during the busy seasons. You can walk just steps to the many restaurants and shops of Kailua-Kona, and the beach out front is usually shallow and calm.
There's a good sized pool right on the ocean, and different festivals happen here such as the Kona Brew Fest and the occasional concert. The lu`au here is well known as one of the best on the island and isn't reserved just for visitors. Great location, simple accommodations, and beach access make it an excellent choice.
