The first time I ate at Red Hot Mama's, a friend of a friend had caught the huge ahi (yellow fin tuna) the night before, and delivered it to the eatery that morning. It was soon on the menu and on our plates. Fresh fish and locally sourced produced is always what's on the menu at Red Hot Mama's, a true hole in the wall on the North Shore of Kaua`i. Located a few minutes north out of Hanalei and very close to all of the wonderful beaches out there, the eatery is truly the last stop before reaching beach dreamland.

With a regular menu of burritos, Mexican plate lunches, tacos and other changing items, the type of fish changes almost daily. There are plenty of signs at the small shop making it clear that the owner doesn't want you to wait in front of the window where she prepares the meals. It's order at the counter and always take out, but there is one picnic table at the small strip of shops. Exquisite beaches are just steps away, so bring the meal to the ocean to enjoy it. Don't miss the wide selection of hot sauces either. Red Hot Mama's is a not-to-miss spot.
